Tapia and Coello edge Lebrón and Augsburger in Cancún

Cancún P2 titles for Tapia and Coello and for Triay Pons and Brea Senesi.

Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello won the Cancún P2 in Mexico, beating Juan Lebrón and Leandro Augsburger 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the final. Gemma Triay Pons and Delfina Brea Senesi took the women's title, beating Paula Josemaría Martín and Beatriz González Fernández 7-6, 6-1. The Premier Padel event ran from 15 March to 22 March.

Men

Tapia and Coello, both ranked No. 1, dropped the opening set on a tie-break against Lebrón and Augsburger, ranked No. 5 and No. 6. They levelled the match 6-3 and closed the third set 7-5.

The champions came through Pablo Lijo and Maximiliano Arce Simo 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 in the round of 16, then beat Lucas Campagnolo and Jairo Bautista 4-0, 0-0, 0-0 in the quarter-finals and Leonel Daniel Aguirre and Alejandro Arroyo 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals. They dropped 2 sets in 4 matches, and 3 of those matches went to three sets.

Lebrón and Augsburger reached the final through Guillermo Collado and Pol Hernández Álvarez 6-3, 6-1 and Gutiérrez and Gonzalo Alfonso 6-1, 6-2.

Gutiérrez and Alfonso, ranked No. 25 and No. 27, had beaten Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, both ranked No. 3, 7-5, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Aguirre and Arroyo, ranked No. 33 and No. 26, beat Francisco Navarro and Francisco Guerrero 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16 and Miguel Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk, ranked No. 9 and No. 8, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. It was the 2nd Premier Padel title of the season for Tapia and Coello.

Women

Triay Pons and Brea Senesi, both ranked No. 1, took the first set on a tie-break against Josemaría Martín and González Fernández, ranked No. 5 and No. 4, and the second 6-1.

Their week ran through Jessica Castelló López and Lorena Rufo Ortiz 6-2, 6-2, Nuria Rodríguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo 6-1, 6-1 in the quarter-finals and Marina Guinart España and Verónica Virseda 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals. They dropped 0 sets in 4 matches and played 0 three-set matches.

Josemaría Martín and González Fernández advanced past Alejandra Salazar Bengoechea and Alejandra Alonso De Villa 6-2, 6-2 and Marta Ortega Gallego and Martina Calvo Santamaría 6-2, 6-3.

Guinart España and Virseda, ranked No. 15 and No. 16, had beaten Ariana Sánchez Fallada and Andrea Ustero Prieto, ranked No. 3 and No. 7, 7-5, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Rodríguez and Dal Pozzo, ranked No. 22 and No. 26, beat Tamara Icardo Alcorisa and Claudia Jensen, ranked No. 12 and No. 10, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 16. Triay Pons and Brea Senesi took their 2nd Premier Padel title of the season.
